Michael Purkhiser has been repairing and modifying amplifiers for over thirty years. A graduate of the University of Akron with a degree in electronics, his electronics background includes being a radio engineer with a first class (general) radiotelephone license, and being a communications technician for the city of Akron. He has also worked locally in Akron at Lentine's Music from 1978-1988 as the head repairman and service manager.
Perhaps most importantly, Michael's been a professional musician since the heyday of the "Akron Sound," fronting two of northern Ohio's most danceable outfits, The Action and The Walking Clampetts. In addition to recording and producing his own musical material, he has also served as a freelance producer/engineer. In 1990 he went to work as the production manager and engineer for 1964...the Tribute, a world-famous Beatles tribute band. It was through this work with 1964 that the seed of building amplifiers was planted. 1964 needed custom amps and custom tube compressors that helped recreate the Beatles Sound. The irony is that Michael's interest in music started when he got a chance to see the Beatles live in August 1966 at Cleveland Stadium.
As a working guitar player himself, Michael understands what you're looking for. As a technician, he knows what electronics will get the best sound. And as a vintage gear collector, he's sensitive to the details of what makes something look the part. His range of skills and experience makes him the ideal person to design and build your amplifier.
